Nelsen announces for State Superintendent of Education
Dear Friends,
As I have traveled the state on my Jobs for the Future Tour and met with community, political, education and business leaders, I have found one constant: to sustain a 21st century economy we must first produce a 21st century public education system.
Throughout my exploratory phase I have been urged to consider running for the job of South Carolina’s State Superintendent of Education. People have responded to my message of reform for our public schools and would like to see someone with Conservative principles and my educational background lead the state’s educational system. Given recent events in our state, I believe now more than ever, we need to come together as a party and as a state to find workable solutions to South Carolina’s greatest problems.
Improving our schools is imperative to rebuilding the state’s economy. Success requires that we equip today’s young people to be tomorrow’s leaders. A strong school system produces a motivated workforce, a motivated workforce promotes successful business and successful business is contagious. South Carolina owes it to its children to give them the best possible opportunities for success. We cannot ask business to wager their future on South Carolina until we invest in our own.
After much thought, prayer, and discussion with my family about this decision, I believe I can serve South Carolina more directly by addressing these issues from the office of the State Superintendent of Education.
For these reasons, I formally announce my candidacy for the office of State Superintendent of Education and would ask that you join my team. With Senator Jim DeMint as Honorary Campaign Chairman, I look forward to continuing my travels across the state to listen to you and develop solutions that bring real reform to South Carolina.
South Carolina’s children are our state’s biggest assets and we owe it to them to prepare, encourage and motivate them for success. This is my number one priority and I will not rest until we achieve these goals.
Thank you for your support, for me and for our great state.
Sincerely,
Brent
